8. What do you do to create and maintain environments that are safe, caring and conducive to student learning?
All students in all of my classes begin the year with this not for credit assignment. Responses range from simply stating responses to my suggestions, to deeply personal stories. This gives me an immediate foundation from which to begin a relationship with my students.
More than anything however, a safe and caring environment is the result of intangible interactions. It is in the brief exchanges and longer conversations that happen organically that students come to know that I truly love and care for them. I believe that all of my students know that I care deeply for them, and I know many feel my love as I feel theirs.

If you really want to know how students feel in my class, you will need to ask them. There is no simple answer to the above question as it must be answered differently for each individual.
